Hello! I am Elaine Carey (Haswell), a Los Angeles-based, North Carolina-born production designer and experimental musician.
I found my way into the art department through a college internship at The Onion, and my production work has largely pertained to comedy ever since. I'm a member of the Art Director’s Guild (IATSE Local 800), and I’ve contributed production design to three seasons of the Emmy-winning Netflix sketch phenomenon I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson, Adult Swim’s surreal Infomercials, and a range of other work spanning ad campaigns, TV specials, music videos, and independent film.
As a sound artist, I have a propensity for free improvisation. Sonic expression in electroacoustic noise duo telecaves (with Juliette Amoroso, 2013-2020) evolved into international solo performances and collaborations with such diverse and prominent artists as LAFMS supergroup Extended Organ, psych rock outfit Pink Mountaintops, indie luminaries Xiu Xiu, Tara Jane O’Neil, and Carla Bozulich, and noise icon Carlos Giffoni (as Rogue Squares, since 2017). I’ve recently scored two short films and am currently arranging my first solo LP.
Over the past decade, I’ve exhibited visual art, installation, and live performance (sometimes at once) in community spaces like Coaxial Arts , The Elysian Theater, and Human Resources as well as larger institutions including Hauser & Wirth and the Hammer Museum.
I am a proud member of the intersectional LGBTQ+ community, a vegetarian, and companion to a 12-year-old bunny rabbit.
